It has taken me a few days to get out of work mode and into vacation mode. We are staying about 3.5 hours (driving time) from our house which results in hotter weather with clear blue skies. As you have probably gathered from past blog posts, the western Washington area is usually cloudy, wet, and cool (55-65 degrees F). However, once you drive over Snoqulamie Pass and enter the eastern side of the state, you get hot, dry desert weather. We now have high 80s to low 90s, clear blue skies. Did I mention blue skies? Yeah, we can see the sun here.
Now, summer is the best time to be in Seattle because the cloudy skies are really now blue skies. The weather is good. The new channel is teasing us with reports of sunshine and temperatures of 70-80.
The Lake Chelan area is beautiful. It use to be just apple orchard country, mixed in with some cherries, and then a sprinkle of vacation condo resorts (lots of timeshares here). Over the past 15 years, Chelan has added about 23 wineries and more tourist activities such as ziplines, jet skis and boat rentals, etc. There is a great and affordable family waterslide park called “Slidewaters”. Great local pizza joints and hamburger places. Heck, and there is sunshine every darn day!
300 days of sunshine…you can’t complain about that especially when it comes with a 55 miles long lake with clear blue water.
We have had a bit of a freeze here in the Pacific Northwest. Portland was lucky (or unlucky) enough to get some snow while here in the Seattle area we have had freezing temperatures and blue skies. Yes, blue skies with sunshine! Oh, and we can see Mt. Rainier too! I know, pretty exciting huh?
The nice part about the cold temperatures is the fact you can stay inside and enjoy the gas fireplace. Heck, if you don’t have one of those, burn a few nice candles. Maybe some nice pumpkin spice ones to put you in the fall holiday mood….drink some hot buttered rum…relax…
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
Sure, it is Sunday and sunny here in Winthorp but it isn’t blazing hot. We have blue skies and temperatures in the upper 50’s and low 60’s. For people from the Seattle area, blue skies is great and something we treasure. I’m a sucker for blue skies, what can I say?
Winthorp is a cute little town on Highway 20. The pass is closed for the winter and won’t open until May. We took the long way here but it was a fun drive. We even stopped at WalMart in Wenatchee. Sadly, I left my phone in the car and I wasn’t able to photograph the people of WalMart for you. Seriously, I wasn’t disappointed when we got in there. My wife had to tell me to stop staring at the mom with tattoos and inappropriate short jean shorts that were way too tight. I know her son will grown up to be so proud of his mom one day!
Getting back to Winthorp, the Mrs. Worthless Advice and I are hanging out here for a long weekend. The town of Winthorp is a little sleepy this time of year but for us, we just needed a nice break and this is perfect. We have a good little two bedroom cabin on the Chewuch River at the River’s Edge Resort. The deck overlooks the river and features a refreshing hot tub. And it is sunny (have I mentioned that??)
I’ll write more later, in the meantime have a great Sunday!
